Edwardian Silver Pipe Rest, Chester, 1904

Here we have a delightful Edwardian Sterling Silver Pipe Rest. The rest has a large bowl at one end, to hold the bowl of the pipe, and a curving shaft on two ball end legs to hold the stem of the pipe. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The pipe rest was made by Haseler Brothers and assayed in Chester in 1904. Haseler Brothers was founded by Edward John Haseler and Noble Haseler in Birmingham in 1888. They primarily produced good quality tableware although their mark is also seen on other items. They manufactured in Birmingham and had a showroom in London’s prestigious Hatton Garden district. After Noble Haseler died in 1919, Edward formed a new partnership with C. Bill, the company becoming known as Haseler & Bill and they continued into the late 1920s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pipe rest is 8.8cm / 3.5ins long, 4.1cm / 1.6ins across the top of the bowl and stands 2cm / 0.79ins high. It weighs in at a respectable 32.1g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside of the shaft, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter D for 1904 and the E J H over N H in a shield makers' mark for Haseler Brothers.
