Edwardian Silver Spoon & Fork Set, Sheffield, 1902
This is an exquisite, top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Spoon & Fork Set. Both items have beautiful engraving down the full length of their stems on both the top side and the under side, which also extends to the underside of the spoon bowl and the heel of the fork.
This would almost certainly have been intended as a christening gift but unusually for this period there is no engraving of name, initials or date, both pieces having large blank cartouches at the top of the stems. This makes them ideal for a truly special gift today, be it christening, retirement or particular birthday.
The spoon & fork set are made by W.W. Harrison & Co in Sheffield and date to 1902. William Wheatcroft Harrison started his business in the mid-1860s and remained in business up until around 1912.
Condition is excellent with no dings or dents and just the absolute minimum amount of superficial surface wear. These have clearly seen little if any use and have been kept as treasured items. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 15.6cm / 6.1ins long and the fork is 15.5cm / 6.1ins long. The pair together weigh a substantial 55.4g / 1.95oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are crisp and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter k for 1902 and the WWH makers' mark for W.W. Harrison & Co.
