George V Silver Dwarf Candlestick, Birmingham 1918

This is a stylish George V Sterling Silver Dwarf Candlestick from the end of the First World War. The candlestick was made by Napper & Davonport in Birmingham and dates to 1918. Napper & Davenport began their partnership in Birmingham in the mid-1900s from premises in St George's Place, Great Hampton Row and carried on in business until the mid-1920s.
This Dwarf Candlestick is well made with a broad circular base, ring decoration and an elegant stem supporting the sconce. It is nice and stable. This type of small candlestick was generally used on a desk to heat sealing wax before applying it to letters and documents. For this reason they are usually found as singles as against decorative candlesticks which most often come as pairs or more. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Condition is fair with a few dings around the rim of the base and the minor wear and tear that you would expect after over 100 years of use. The candlestick is 10.7cm high and 6.3cm in diameter across the base. It weighs 88.7g but this does include the filler put in the base for stability.
The hallmarks on the side of the base are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "t" for 1918 and the N & D makers' mark for Napper & Davenport.
Shipping in the UK is £5 by Hermes Tracked & Signed courier.
Overseas customers please enquire about shipping costs before making a purchase.
