Small Davenport Writing Desk c.1830.
Gorgeous little early 19th.c. Davenport writing desk with bird’s eye maple veneers c.1830. Sloped top with a leather writing surface, raised gallery and a hinged pen tray over four drawers of graduated depth to the right hand side and matching dummy drawer fronts to the left plus a sliding candle stand. Lift the slope to reveal a mahogany lined interior with four small pigeon holes (and two dummy drawers below). Raised on a fine pair of turned columns with carved papyrus leaf detail to the capitals and bases. Turned bun feet with original small brass castors hidden below. Mahogany drawer linings. Some old surface wear and an obvious split to one of the dummy drawer fronts. Otherwise excellent condition, the veneers mellowed to a particularly good honey colour. Fitted with a new leather skiver, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
