Description

Beautiful little English Regency chiffonier side cabinet by Loader & Son of Cheapside London c.1826. Useful small size, just 27" wide. Original cascade top with a shaped pediment and featuring two shelves of graduated depth on scrolling supports. Over a two door cupboard base fitted with an adjustable shelf (internal depth 11") and with a single drawer at the waist. Well figured flame mahogany veneers across the piece and a brass door trim. The base is flanked with a particularly attractive pair of turned and spiral carved columns. Note how the columns are fitted to the outer edges of the doors (rather than the cabinet sides) allowing the doors to open a full 180 degrees. Raised on the original turned feet front and rear, the front feet being reeded as well. Original paper labels inside the drawer and cupboard for Loader & Son of 27 & 28 Noble Street Cheapside in the city of London, dating the piece between 1826 (when they extended from number 27 into 28) and 1829 when they moved to Newgate Street. Mahogany groundwork and drawer linings. Repair to the gallery at the right hand side of the upper shelf and ripple to the veneer on the main top, otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
