Description

Early 19th.c. triple plate gilded overmantle mirror c.1820. Wooden frame with moulded and gilded plasterwork decoration. Bevelled central mirror surrounded with an athemion pattern border flanked on each side with flat mirrors and faux columns with classical busts and claw feet. Moulded frieze across the top with scrolling foliate decoration and papyus leaf pattern sides. On an ebonised plinth. Original unrestored condition with damage to the plasterwork, most obvious to the centre frieze and above the right hand bust. Minor spotting to the mirrors and missing a portion of the ebonised plinth (which could be simply removed). Original gilt finish attractively mellowed with age.
Dimensions width 58″, height 34″, depth 2½”.
