In 1865, the Aller Vale Pottery began work on the site of a much earlier English pottery site near Kingskerswell, South Devonshire, England. It became famous for high quality stoneware art pottery, influenced by the British arts and crafts movement, as well as the work of William Morris. It closed in 1924, however the name continued as a lower grade tourist pottery until the 1960's.

In 1889, well known 27 year old Italian designer Dominico Marcucci began working at Aller Vale. He introduced a classic line, featuring blue and cream scrolls. Princess Alexandra visited Torquay and placed her own special royal order, and enjoying what she recived so much, she asked that the line be named "Sandringham Ware", after the English Sandringham country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen in Norfolk. The retreat has been in use by the Royal family since 1862.

This is a small, beautiful and classic art nouveau era Sandringham pattern vase, circa 1905. It is marked "Tormohun Ware, Torquay." and is in beautiful condition, clean bright and classic in all regards. We look for Devon Sandringham ware in great condition our travels, and find it to be elusive.
