1820-1840's Masons Orange & Black Pekin Japan Jug

Description
#AD232: Antique Transferware Imari Chinese Design Mason's JugThis original, 180-200 year old Chinoiserie Masons jug was made by the Mason Co. in Staffordshire. It is documented in Geoffrey Godden's Mason reference Book,"Godden's Guide to Mason's China and the Ironstone Wares." There is also very interesting extensive research work into Mason's Pekin Japan line by the TCC, the Transferware Collector's Club.
This is a beautiful early and rather early primitive feel to it. It is an intricate ornate black oriental themed transferware design printed on a an early white ironstone jug, then hand painted in bright oranges, red tones and browns. The pattern name Pekin comes from Peking, China and the pattern is considered a willow variant by TCC. It has the typical Masons style hexagonal jug or similar hydra jug (or pitcher) base.
This jug is unmarked. The base is marked with a hand-written potter's tally pattern number of 750. The condition is clean and beautiful. There are very slight flake tiny chips or nibbles to the very spout area, as seen in photos. There are no other cracks or repairs, is quite stunning condition for age. It was found in Newton Abbot, Devon, England. Click images to see condition in close up views. Rare, early, original English pottery and beautiful!
