1830 Thomas Fell's Joseph meets Jacob Child's Plate

Description
#AD075:Joseph and his coat of many colours is an important biblical story in the Old Testament. It was an important bible story for children in the 19th century and is often a theme in Christian themed English children's pottery pieces.
This is a beautiful old circa 1830 antique child's religious pearlware soft paste plate entitled "Sacred History of Joseph and his Brethren" with a black transferware scene of "Joseph meeting with Jacob his Father". It depicts Joseph and his brothers meeting again.
Often thought to be made in Staffordshire, it was actually made by Thomas Fell & Co. at their Saint Peters Pottery factory in Newcastle. They were in business from 1817–1890 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England. The plate has a thickly embossed daisy flower rim, very slight Scalloped edge and measures 7.75 inches in diameter. The condition is beautiful, clean and bright. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. This old piece is in lovely condition.
The reverse has much original black pottery paint from the Fell factory slathered on it, we feel it adds to the charm, see photos. It is unmarked as most were, although occasionally the Fell anchor mark can be found on some of their early children's plates from the series.
According to the TCC, Transferware Collector's Club Database there were 12 children's plates in this Thomas Fell series, they are entitled:
1. Joseph's First Dream
2. Joseph's Second Dream
3. Reuben interceding with his Brethren for the Life of Joseph
4. Joseph sold by his Brethren to the Ishmeelites
5. Portiphar's Wife falsely accusing Joseph
6. Joseph interpreting the Dreams of Pharoahs Chief Butler and Baker
7. Joseph interpreting Pharoahs Dreams
8. Josephs Brethren Applying to him for Corn in the time of Famine
9. Judah resigning himself and his Brethren into the hands of Joseph
10. Joseph making himself known to his Brethren
11. Joseph meeting with Jacob his Father
12. Joseph introducing his Father and five Brethren unto Pharaoh
This wonderful Georgian and early Victorian era religious piece was found in Newton Abbot, Devon, England. We have another plate in this series, plate #12 "Joseph introducing his Father and five Brethren" which was found together with this plate. It can also be found here on Antiques Atlas. Click images to see condition in close up views. The condition is beautiful on both, clean and stunning. They are almost 190 years old.
