Description

A Superb Queen Anne Marquetry Longcase clock By Thomas Martin c1700

An exceptional quality marquetry longcase clock in a most wonderful original untouched condition, the fine arabesque marquetry is of the highest quality and features ho-ho birds, shells and floral swags. I have very carefully cleaned the case and applied a fine coat of the finest beeswax to ensure that the case does not dry out.

The fine five pillar movement with centre latched, inside countwheel and intricately made lever-work has not been overhauled yet so that you can specify the exact standard of finish of the movement parts. The quality of the movement clearly shows the influence of his highly trained father's pedigree.

Thomas Martin of London was apprenticed to Jeremiah Martin ( himself a famous Tompion apprentice ) in May 1692 then recorded as admitted to the Worshipful company of Clockmakers in 1699. he worked from the Royal Exchange (1714) then Fleet Street 1724.
