Description

A fine quality flame mahogany quarter chiming 8 bell London pagoda longcase clock by Robert Wood. Robert Wood is recorded as working in Horse Shoe Alley, Moorfields, London from about 1785 until circa 1810. He is renowned for making fine longcase and bracket clocks and this clock is no exception.
The deep lustre mahogany panels to the door and base have been carefully cleaned to reveal its original high glass shellac finish. The beautifully proportioned case being 250cm high is finished with fine fretwork frieze to the top of the hood. The brass reeded columns to the trunk and either side of the hood are typical of this fine Georgian period.
The silvered break arch dial having the finest quality engraving to the four corners and arch is finished with the makers name Robert Wood London, I have not re-silvered the dial and this has enhanced the overall elegance and patina to this piece.
The substantial 8 bell quarter striking movement has been fully overhauled be me personally and comes with a full three years guarantee for your peace of mind. The “flick” striking mechanism featuring a strike/silence lever and calendar progression
