Description

A Precision Fiddleback Scottish Regulator Longcase Clock by Richard Millar c1830,
Richard Millar was admitted as a freeman of the incorporation of Hammermen of Edinburgh in 1814, his essay being a clock movement. Son-in-law of James Clark, Freeman Clockmaker and Elizabeth Thomson a Burgess od Edinburgh. He briefly worked with Christopher Lawson in 1825 and became a clockmaker, watchmaker and machine maker with his son Richard Millar Jr in 1845. A clock by him dated 1830 is a Mahogany Regulator signed Richard Millar, 5 North Bridge, Edinburgh.
This Precision regulator is typical of the highest quality often seen in Scottish regulators and the woods used in them are fantastic. This clock having stunning solid Fiddleback Mahogany to the trunk and beautiful flame mahogany base has to be seen in the flesh to fully appreciate the sheer beauty and craftsmanship. The “double Bass” shaped trunk allows the light to fully immerse onto the curves and gives the fiddleback grain an almost watery look.
The precision knopped pillar movement with deadbeat escapement and Harrison maintaining power reserve allows for the movement to continue to run whilst winding. The movement has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three year guarantee for your peace of mind. The clock also features an experimental double bob pendulum with ebony pendulum rod for accuracy.
