An exceptional 10 Bell quarter striking ebonised bracket clock by Handley and Moore c1800. The impressive ebonised case with a dial featuring three pure white porcelain dials, one main dial plus two subsidiary dials for strike/silence and quite uniquely the days of the week.
The substantial 10 bell quarter chiming movement with the Handley and Moore name engraved into a cartouche on the backplate has been fully overhauled and comes with a full three-year guarantee for your peace of mind.
Handley & Moore was a clock-making partnership between George Handley and John Moore of Clerkenwell Close, London. They were fine and well-known clockmakers working from 1798 until the death of Handley in 1824 after which Moore continued alone.
The partnership supplied many movements and clocks to top grade makers of the period and used a number of distinctive features on their movements, such as the style of border engraving to the backplate, a feature also used by Thwaites & Reed, another supplier of high quality movements.
Both Handley and Moore were apprentices to John Thwaites in the late 18th century.
