Description

A very handsome English Regency piece of particularly fine quality. This gentleman's clothes press contains all original pull out slides to the central and side sections and is set on lotus and tulip carved solid rosewood legs with rose roundels at the tops.

Superb cabinet work throughout, in exemplary original condition with no damages or worm. The press set with original slides to front and side sections which pull out smoothly and offer large and robust storage. The slides are also removable and adjustable and the cabinet could perhaps be used as a collectors cabinet. The rosewood veneers beautifully selected and butterfly matched and of particular good colour. Very heavy and sturdy, the doors retaining original locks and keys throughout and with inset original brass slide bolts.

The press was made for a Mr H L Palmer of Penleigh House near Westbury Wiltshire. Penleigh was built in 1710 and has a long and well documented Country House history. A wonderful and practical piece by a skilled cabinet maker.
