Description

This beautiful dresser is about to return to my client and go into storage so I am offering a final chance to buy at a bargain price!!

Purchased in 1980 for £6,000 from Michael Priest Antiques in Thame (Oxford) this very handsome George II dresser with a superior colour, beautiful rich and natural patination and in excellent original condition.

The rack with large hand azed elm boards, original shelves with delft stays and exposed tenons and with five original slender spice drawers over a single solid elm plank top with canted corners and channel carved detailing to the border.

The four central drawers to the lower case with original and clean linings and substantial brass handles which are early, and sit in the original holes, but are in our view later replacements c. 1800. The flanking cupboards with most attractive carved and arched fronts, carved in the whole and the edges beautifully smoothed from centuries of use.

Minor dings, knocks and depletions, some old worm depletions and replacements to spice drawer linings - long since treated and dead.

Heavy and robust, usable and offering a huge amount of storage space, a truly lovely and original rare example full of character.

Dimensions are:
