Description

An exceptionally large and original 19th century carved giltwood mirror which retains its original mirror plate and original backboard.

Very robust and heavy, the carved frame with tied ribbon surmount and leaf carved borders, small shrinkage cracks to the elements as is usual but all are solid and robust - no loose parts or movement. In very good condition for age.

The huge piece of glass is handmade and has a lovely soft blue/grey hue and it reflects perfectly. The margins of the mirror - particularly in the far upper left margin - have some age related wear and fogging but this is attractive and part of the mirror's genuine age.

You can see this clearly in our photos and it is part of the mirror's history and charm.

A beautiful huge and heavy over mantle mirror in very good condition from a private house in Hampshire.

Dimensions are:

60 inches wide max and 64 inches high.

The plate is 47 inches wide and 59 inches high.
