Description

A particularly lovely and very original George II oak dresser with original handles and an absolutely fantastic colour and rich natural patination. The dresser is extremely heavy with original boarded top and single substantial hand azed elm board completely covering the back.

One early iron key operates the drawer and a second works the locks of both cupboards.

The drawers are crossbanded in fruitwood and retain their original oak and pine linings. The whole is peg jointed and the cupboard doors open to the original boarded interior.

There are small knocks, depletions and marks consistent with age and part of the dresser’s long history and great charm. The feet have been re-tipped professionally and difficult to notice and this appears to be 19th century restoration. Evidence of old wood worm here and there, treated and dead.

Strongly recommended, there are very few mid-Georgian dressers of such lovely quality and so original and with such a fabulous colour.
