Description

A very beautiful George II walnut and yew wood lowboy made by hand in c. 1750 and of exemplary colour. The lovely oversailing top with a stunning yew wood panel within a deep crossbanded figured walnut border.

The three frieze drawers with original linings of fine boards over very well shaped and stepped apron with fine borders to front and sides and of a most unusual form with long and slightly tapered squared legs terminating in cupped feet, a squared version of a Braganza foot and completely original.

The small engraved brasses are period but not the originals. They suit the lowboy very well. Some old professional restorations to rear legs – well blended and difficult to notice even on close inspection. Small losses and bruises.

Absolutely stunning lowboy of small and elegant proportion, sturdy and stands well. Heavy and robust.

Completely charming and very original example.
