Description

A very attractive and comfortable fireside chair of exceptional quality in solid mahogany and carved with substantial gothic trefoils which form the arm supports. Really beautiful large and well turned front legs set on original solid brass casters. Shaped front seat rail, scrolled back with carved roundels, this is an extremely comfortable well padded chair which is solid and without breaks or repairs.

The whole reflecting Arts and Crafts design and the quality and design very much in the manner of the fine English makers Holland & Sons.

The chair is upholstered in a lovely antique gold velvet with buttoned back and arm caps. The upholstery also in excellent and unmarked condition.

To have a chair like this made today would cost around £2,000 in labour and it would be made from inferior materials as mahogany like this has, for more than a century, been protected and cannot be felled. The high street is full of modern mass produced identical furniture, designed for obsolescence in a few years and made of inferior materials yet sold at huge sums. These items are made and imported at huge cost to the environment.

Antique furniture is not only beautiful but it stands the test of time, has been made with love and care, and re-using furniture protects our plants resources.

This is a beautiful chair of superb quality that will last a lifetime and more.
