Description

This beautiful dining table is in superb condition and was made by a skilled master craftsman in c. 1820.

It exhibits the finest and most fashionable elements of design for the period with an egg and dark carved border around the circumference of the top and with matching border at a reduced scale encircling the frieze below.

The substantial gun-barrel column has a deep brass and gilded collar which is beautifully chased and engraved. The platform with wide swept tapering sabre legs, each with acanthus carved terminals flanked by large hand carved scrolls. With large original cast brass cappings of oak and acanthus leaf design terminating in original brass casters.

The whole is original with no breaks or damage.

We have tried six large dining chairs around this table and it is very spacious and comfortable for this number.
The table is very heavy indeed, stable and level. It sits flat on the column with no rocking or movement, and retains its original solid brass side bolts and sliding bolt catch. The top can be tilted when not in use and the table is beautifully weight and designed so that it does not tilt or tip with the top raised, and the top may also be removed for transport.

This is a spectacular quality table of a rare and fine form and of beautifully figured, well chosen rosewood of excellent colour and bright grain, the whole highlighted with brass mounts and in superb condition throughout.

Strongly recommended.
