Description

A good quality two part display case and bookcase with original glass, brass locks and two steel keys.

The solid mahogany carcase is graduated so that the slightly narrower upper case sits firmly over the wider lower case and with a short ogee edged shelf running across the waist.

All four doors open smoothly and close properly and retain their original bronze handles.

Perfect for displaying a collection of books, porcelain, pottery, silver or a combination of treasures. Very heavy and sturdy this is a well made and good quality piece of late Victorian solid mahogany furniture which sits down well.

The bookcase can be transported in two parts and there are fixings which hold the upper and lower case together once in place. Original backboards and retaining the shelves which are removable and adjustable on an inset ladder strip. With some scratches to the shelf and a small 1 cm wide section of moulding missing to the right hand side at waist. Some superficial scuffs and some minor dings and marks consistent with age and 120 or so years of caring use.
With a lovely rich and even colour to the mahogany, a bookcase of slender proportions which would work particularly well in a narrow hallway or stairwell.

Selling on behalf of a good client, this is a high quality example of late Victorian furniture. Impressive, attractive and useful.
