Description

A beautiful and early 18th Century oak cabinet with canted corners and Grecian key cornice fitted with a secret drawer.

The upper cabinet has a wonderful and finely worked interior of ten small parquetry faced oak drawers and a parquetry panelled door centred with a sunburst and lower panel flanked by two further short drawers. The drawers and door set with walnut, holly and ebony and retaining the original latch hinges.

Behind the central door a further set of six small oak drawers below which the base is fitted with two secret compartments. There is a further full width drawer above the oak brushing slide. The lower case is a fitted cupboard with interior shelf.

The whole enclosed by two sets of panelled doors with carved swag decoration and Grecian urns.

Original handles and beautifully matured colour and patina.

An early example, Northern Italy c. 1720. Solid oak throughout with minor dings and dents consistent with age and careful use. The upper case lifts off the lower case for transport. Extremely heavy, robust and original throughout.

A truly stunning antique cabinet, practical and of very small proportions, the brushing slide allowing the cabinet to be used as a desk if required.
