Description

A beautiful oak table with a particularly good colour and retaining a deep original finish and natural patination.

The six plank top over a shaped apron. The four supports are blocked and tapered ending in small pad feet. Two legs are hinged and turn outwards to support the leaves when the table is extended. All of the timbers to the top, apron and legs are completely original with no breaks. There is normal wear and bruising throughout consistent with careful use over the last three hundred years.

The table has clearly been loved and particularly well cared for all of its life. It carries minor 19th century restorations to the under framing (some small butterfly joints and glue blocks) which are only visible if you lie on the floor and look up under the table when the leaves are extended. The hand made iron strap hinges are in perfect working order and again appear original.

A very good table, English, and of excellent colour, dating from c.1720

Very sturdy, heavy and robust with a lovely shape and usable height.
