Description

A beautiful solid walnut small chair in very original condition with finely turned spindles to back rail and front rail, chip carved legs and chip carved back and seat rails centred with flying pin wheels, original seat boards and exposed tenons with peg joints throughout.

Such a lot of skill and effort has gone into the making of this chair, with the turner and joiner collaborating in the construction and the joiner then embellishing with bold carvings. It must have been made for a very special child.

The walnut has a superior warm and rich colour and deep natural patina and the chair has no later timbers or breaks. The front seat corners are nibbled and depleted, particularly the front right hand corner. Some evidence of old worm, long since dead.

A heavy little walnut chair in very good condition for age, conservatively dated at 1620, and utterly charming.

Dimensions are:

15.5 inches wide, 15.5 inches deep and 31 inches high.

Floor to seat is 15.5 inches.

For metric please multiply by 2.5
