Description

An original mid 17th Century oak joint stool with lovely tall gun-barrel and turned legs and the maker's initials W.P. stamped under the seat board.

The stool has some old depletions from worm here and there - as shown in our photographs - but long dead and the stool is heavy and rock solid with no loose or crumbling to the frame and with no weakness or movement at the joints. Some dings and bruises consistent with age and use and with small chips and wear to the feet as is usual in seat furniture of this great age.

A very handsome and substantial early oak joint stool made in c. 1650, having good well balanced proportions and retaining the full original height of the legs. Entirely practical for use, with a particularly good rich colour and patination.
