Fine William and Mary Turned Walnut Stool c.1690
Description
A very fine William and Mary solid walnut stool, original frame, with well turned legs conjoined by a lovely turned H form stretcher. Made by a skilled hand, peg jointed throughout and dating from c.1690.The deeply padded seat has been professionally re-upholstered in a high quality thick velvet with a beautiful pomegranate and madder leaf pattern - a William Morris design for which he took inspiration from 17th century and earlier tapestries and furnishings. The upholstery finished with a trim of bead and pomegranate tassels all very much in keeping with fashionable fabrics of the William and Mary period.
The stool is heavy and structurally sound throughout with no later elements and the walnut has developed an excellent rich colour and patination.
An eye catching and high quality late 17th century stool of most attractive proportion and design, robust enough for daily use.
A charming and rare survivor.
Dimensions are:
19 inches wide, 14.5 inches deep and 15.5 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
