Description

I’m delighted to present this magnificent Georgian seed pearl & mother of pearl necklace.

Pieces like these were very popular wedding gifts in the 18th & early 19th centuries. But because they were so delicate and fragile (especially necklaces), very few survived to the present days – which makes them a very rare and precious find indeed!

This remarkable necklace has a lovely floral / scallop design with graduated seed pearls strung to 7 intricately carved mother-of-pearl panels. The scallop shape flowers are raised, which makes them stand out beautifully. The necklace is complete with its original 14ct gold push-in type catch.

Measurements:
Extended length: 40 cm, out of which the row of panels is about 23 cm long.
The largest (central) panel is about 2.7 x 3 cm, the smaller scalloped flowers are 2.2 x 2.4 cm approximately – just to give you an idea of the proportions.
Total weight: 14 gram

Condition: I can see some signs of minor restoration (reinforcement/re-attachment type) under strong magnification. But considering the age and fragility of items like this one, I’d rate it as very good to excellent. I personally have only seen and handled ones ranging from fair to poor condition so far, on the rare occasion I came across such types. So this necklace is outstanding in all aspects!
