Description

3 beautifully decorated glasses, engraved with a copper wheel, a rose and a bud with trailing thorny stem. More than a nod to being Jacobite glasses, I have seen others with only this amount of symbols firmly described as such. The quality of the quadruple corkscrew twist around a gauze tube is just superb, the fellow who made these had been doing this for a few years. Most opaque twist glass one sees is dated 1760, while that is around the time of its inception they weren't all made in that year. They would slowly have taken over from airtwist glass but over a period of time they would have been for sale alongside each other, fashion was a slower animal then. As I said the man who made these had been perfecting his craft a while. Dating then, any time around mid to late 1760s. A glass at random weighed 116 grams
