Description

Finely decorated pair of Meiji Period Japanese bronze vases c1880. The vases are of baluster form with applied decoration depicting hawks amongst blossom above a stream. Birds and blossom in different metals and with gilt finish. Decorated to form a mirror-type (rather than identical) pair, as is traditionally found in Japanese pieces. The vases are 15.5 cm in height and are unmarked.
This pair of vases are in excellent condition commensurate with age having a gorgeous antique patina. No damage or loses to the decoration. An extremely slight difference in the hue of the patina in some areas due to differences in original composition of the bronze alloy - not at all obvious when displayed. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
