Description

A very lovely pair of Art Nouveau vases by Eliza Simmance for Doulton Lambeth c1890. Of narrow footed, shouldered baluster-form with elongated neck and everted rim. Body encircled by beautiful Art Nouveau design of foliage and flowers, mirrored between the pair of vases. Decorative band to foot and rim. Gorgeously coloured, mottled ground in tonal greens with russet hues. Impressed Doulton Lambeth mark used until 1901. Signed with Eliza Simmance's monogram (E within an S) together with ‘ob’ for Emma A Burrows. The vases are 30 cm in height and 11 cm in diameter.
These vases are in excellent original condition commensurate with age. No crazing, chips, cracks or restoration. One vase with flaw to upper inside rim from orginal (inclusion trapped under glaze). Please see images as these form an important part of the description.

Eliza Simmance, one of the earliest artists engaged, worked at Doulton Lambeth as an artist and designer between 1873 and 1928. She quickly became recognised as an original and versatile designer - winning many high awards at international exhibitions. Her work remains highly collectible. Emma A Burrows worked as a senior assistant from 1881 to c1894.
