A set of 12 Arts & Crafts oak dining chairs. The set comprises eleven side chairs and one up-scaled carver. All constructed in solid oak with upholstered drop-in seats. The design of these chairs is widely attributed to the offices of architect Richard Norman Shaw c.1876 for the Tabard Inn at Bedford Park. These chairs were made by William Birch of High Wycombe and retailed by Morris & Co as the "Hampton Court" chair. (see V&A Museum collection)
