12” English Fusee Dial Timepiece by William Kibble


A wonderful Victorian period fusee wall timepiece with 12” dial, by clock, watchmaker and Jeweller, William Kibble of London.
Born 1819, Southwark, London, Surrey, Kibble operated from 22 Gracechurch Street, London, Middlesex, from c1845, where he produced high-quality clocks and watches including this excellent example.
• A solid Oak turned roundhead face (with superb tiger stripe graining), sits over its boxed cabinet
• Hinged inspection door located to the side of the box.
• Operable lockable regulator door located at the bottom of the box.
• The clock retains its original metal dial, with black Roman numerals and Kibble’s details.
• Retains its original pair of blued spade hands, secured with a pinned collet.
• Dial protected by glaze mounted in a brass bezel, incorporating a canted silvered brass fillet to the interior.
• Quality 8-day single fusee movement set between rectangular plates and turned pillars.
• Comes with its original 70mm diameter brass pendulum bob, its door key and brass winding key.
One of Kibble’s great passions was travelling to overseas destinations, and as he became more affluent from his work, spent many summers away with his family, exploring the major cities of Europe and North Africa throughout the late 1850’s through to the mid-1870’s.
Kibble retired from his professional undertakings in c1880, relocating to rural Berkhamsted, Herts. He handed the business over to his son William Frederick Kibble (born 1848), and a Goldsmith by trade, who changed the business into a sole jewellery retailers.
