14” Fusee Dial Timepiece by Thomas H. Scorfield %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
We present for consideration, this stunning fusee wall timepiece with larger 14” dial, by maker Thomas Harrison Scorfield of 55 York Street, Jarrow-on-Tyne (which in the 1870’s was in the county of Durham).

Born 1847 in North Shields, Northumberland, Scorfield served his antique clock and watchmaking apprenticeship under his father, William, at 59 Tyne Street, North Shields, before moving to Jarrow to set up his own workshop where he was listed as a “watch and clockmaker and repairer.” Scorfield is recorded as having a “long and distinguished” horological career, retiring as he did, in c1900. He passed away in 1933 aged 86.

(NB: Thomas also had a well-known younger clockmaking brother in the North-East region called William Scorfield Jr. Born 1840, he also served his apprenticeship with his father alongside Thomas).

The antique clocks solid orange Mahogany turned roundhead face, sits over its veneered boxed cabinet, both with deep, rich colour, and lovely aged patination. There are two original hinged inspection doors, one on each side of the box and a further operable lockable regulator door located at the bottom of the box. The clock retains its original metal dial and artwork, with black Roman numerals and Scorfield’s details and blued spade hands, secured with a pinned collet. The clocks dial is then protected by its thick glaze mounted in a brass bezel.

The clock benefits from a quality 8-day single fusee chain driven movement set between shouldered plates and turned pillars and comes with its original 74mm diameter brass pendulum bob and a brass winding key.

…A most desirable, mid-Victorian English fusee dial timepiece of high-quality, from one of the North-East of England’s notable clockmaking family names.
