15ft Victorian Oak Dining Table & 6 Leaves

1 of 6
Superb quality extra wide early Victorian extending dining table in golden quarter-sawn oak with six original leaves. Dating to c.1840 this unusually large 62 1/2in wide table smoothly extends from 6ft8in to 14ft9in using a screw winding mechanism allowing it to seat from 6 up to 18 or maybe even 20 people. The rounded top with a slight D-shape to the ends and a double lipped moulded edge stands on five turned and fluted baluster shaped legs with brass caps and brown pottery castors.
With a good honey oak colour to the top and superior mahogany runners, it has been recently repolished and rewaxed but still shows some signs of age including a hairline crack along the grain to one end. The leaves are stamped with consecutive numbers to the side and any number of the leaves can be added, the winder handle is included.
This table was previously owned by Mario Conti, Bishop of Aberdeen 1977-2002 and Archbishop of Glasgow 2002-2012.
Extended Length - 14ft9in / 179in (454.5cm)
Closed Length - 80 1/4in (204cm)
Width - 5ft 2½ / 62½in (159cm)
Height - 29 1/4in (74.5cm)
