16th C. Oil Painting of Holy Emperor Frederic III

16th Century Oil Painting on board of the Holy Roman Emperor III by circle or school of Hans Burgkmair the older (1473 - 1531).
Portrait of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederic III. (1415 – 1493).
Oil on wooden panel. Probably oak. Described top right.
In attractive later European gilt frame with black & gilt inner decoration, circa 18th Century.
Hans Burgkmair was a German woodcut printmaker and painter. His paintings were mainly of religious scenes, portraits of Augsburg citizens, and members of the Emperor's court. Many examples of his work are in the major galleries of Munich & Vienna.
The painting of the Holy Roman Emperor Fredrick III, attributed to Hans Burkmair, based on a lost 1468 original, is held in the Vienna Art History Museum, and is dated late 15th - early 16th Century.
Good period condition and colour. Some scratches and marks appropriate to age.
Purchased from Austrian auction market, as described above.
