17th Century Bronze Patinated Cauldron

The ovoid body with everted flared rim having angular open handles on tripod fluted peg feet.
With a beautiful aged patina, the bronze has some holes to the base (now, useful for drainage) with some patched at the flanks, whilst one foot has been re-tipped but the rest of the piece is original.
The angular ears were originally used to suspend the vessel over the fire and the casting seams or flash lines are visible where the two halves have been molded together. This form of cauldron was much produced of old and the design was generic throughout much of the British Isles. Although we cannot find a foundry mark this piece is easily dated due to its typical seventeenth century style.
Once used to prepare meals, this appealing cooking vessel come planter is now a superb decorative item, with lashings of possibilities.
