17th Century Oak and Fruitwood Chest of Drawers

With a really fantastic colour and natural deep patina, this is a very beautiful and delightfully small 17th century chest. The upper and lower drawer bolection mouldings are inset and faced with book-matched fruitwood – this doesn’t show very well on the photos but is a lovely contrast with the oak and is original with a fine grain and a beautiful colour. A rarely seen and high quality detail.
The lowest backboard is replaced but otherwise the carcase is all original, as are the oak drawer linings.
This was purchased from a renowned Northern England LAPADA dealer in the late 1980s for a substantial sum and is on the market for the first time in over 30 years.
The owner has moved and the chest no longer suits his property so he would like it to go to someone who will appreciate and enjoy it as he has done all these years.
I hope to be able to supply a copy of the original LAPADA receipt once my client has located this and certainly details of the dealer and dates can be confirmed on request.
No significant damage or repairs. The twin boarded top has developed a very slight and most attractive natural ‘smile’ and has a small square inset patch in oak (done a century or so ago and almost invisible as you can see from our photographs). The chest is in very good original condition, retaining original pegs throughout, and is set on attractive bun feet.
A good and heavy example with a great colour, with rarely seen fruitwood inlays, and of an unusually small size.
Dimensions are:
33 inches wide (max at feet), 19 inches deep and 31 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
