1870's Booths TGB Indian Ornament Small Platter

#AD064: Booth's Pottery
This is a stunning small Booths 8 inch ironstone platter or tea tray in perfect condition. The TGB pottery company (Thomas Gimbert Booth) were earthenware and ironstone English pottery manufacturers at the Church Bank works in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England starting in 1864. Thomas Booth Sr. had earlier worked as "Evans & Booth" at the Knowles Works in Burslem in 1864, but went out on his own in 1868 as the Thomas Booth & Co, soon moving to Tunstall.
In 1872 Thomas Booth Sr's son Thomas Gimbert Booth joined the company and it was then known as Thomas Booth & Son. In 1876 the business was renamed to Thomas Gimbert Booth until 1883, when Thomas Gimbert's brother Frederick Booth joined the business, which then became known as T.G. & F. Booth Company.
This small piece is almost optical, with stunningly intricate transferware design. The beautiful "Indian Ornament" pattern dates from 1876-1883. It also has a beautiful artistic TGB backmark as seen in photos, as well as the Booth company mark "Ironstone TGB" with the number "5" incised into the clay. Click images to see condition in very close up and movable views. It was found in Topsham, Devon, England.
