1870's Flow Blue Etruscan Aesthetic Ironstone Jug

#AD209: English Neoclassical Grecian Vases Water Pitcher or Jug
This is a beautiful and original 1870's Staffordshire English pottery Victorian flow blue water jug. It features very well rendered polychrome colour overpainted and overglazed on early transfer designs of early classical Etruscan artifacts such as urns and Grecian vases. The Aesthetic movement was a mid to late 19th century cultural movement, whose influence commenced the most in the late 1860s and early 1870s.
The condition is bright and exceptionally clean with no chips, cracks or repairs and no noticeable age crazing. The piece is in beautiful condition for over 150 years of age. The bottom has a single cross mark in blue, as seen in photos, and the piece is made from a 2 piece mold. Even the gold gilding around rim is intact and clean.
This jug resembles the colour and transferware work of a 19th century Mayer & Elliot English jug called "Etruscan Vases" from 1877. We also found similar work by Staffordshire pottery firm Hancock and Wittingham, made in the mid 1870's. We do not know the Staffordshire maker. This beautiful old piece was found in Totnes, Devon, England. Click images to see condition in close up views. It is large, commanding and very handsome. How beautiful on a Victorian table.
Size: 8 inches tall x 7 inches wide ——We have a 100% approval policy. For any questions, email Debra at the contact box below. Thank you, ~debra
