18 Inch Terrestrial Globe on Stand by Kittinger
18 inch American library globe on stand. The circular cartouche reads TERRESTRIAL GLOBE, Kittinger Company Incorporated, 1893 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, N.Y. Below is further information "Printed by W & A. K. Johnston Ltd, Edinburgh, Scotland. Copyright".
The orb is in a full mount, the cast iron full ring meridian sitting in a cast iron cradle. The flat horizon ring is in good condition, the paper scale intact except for one main area. The mahogany Duncan Phyfe style stand is excellent quality, carved and with brass lions paw feet and casters. The condition of the globe is unrestored, there are areas of damage to the surface, mostly rubbing but near the name cartouche the globe has suffered a knock. However, for its age , it has survived well! It dates from between 1924 and 1930 in 1924 St Petersburg became Leningrad, and in 1930 Constantinople became Istanbul.
