A mid 18th century mezzotint portrait of Anne Bastard by James McArdell after Sir Joshua Reynolds.
Circa 1755
Image 25 cms x 22 cms.
Overall framed size 43.5 x 35 cms
In very good condition as is the old quality frame.
Anne Bastard (nee Worsley) who died in 1765 was considered a great beauty and was the wife of William Bastard of Kitley(1727-1782).William was offered a baronetcy for his part in saving the arsenal at Plymouth from the French fleet in 1779 but declined the title.
James McArdell(1729-1765) was reputedly Sir Joshua Reynolds favourite engraver.
Supplied in late 19th or early 20th cent. by Fredk. Daniell & Son the foremost London dealers in prints in the 19th cent.
