18thC Dolau Inn New Quay Settle

A very pretty 18th Century West Wales Settle of desirable style and small proportions.
This beautiful settle is an original piece from the Dolau Inn in New Quay which sadly closed under much local protest in October 2016. This piece is understood to have lived in the Dolau Inn since its first opening around 1755 and has certainly had a very interesting life.
The Dolau Inn being the oldest pub in New Quay and the last of all establishments in the costal town to have retained any of its original furnishings. This settle is amongst the last of such pieces likely to be available as a result of the closing and modernisation of traditional taverns. We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this piece with such social and historical connection.
During her time living in New Quay Caitlin the Wife of Welsh Poet Dylan Thomas spent much of her time in the Dolau which became her favoured drinking hole. In a small Inn this settle would have certainly served her and Dylans seating needs on occasions.
A rare piece even without such wonderful provenence it is extra special for retaining its painted finish. Having a well figured and strong oak frame it still stands at its original full height and remains very sturdy, coupled with the quality paneled and raked back it makes for a surprisingly comfortable seat even for the taller modern person.
In superb condition with a just a small chip to the rear corner of the seat it remains remarkably original.
Width 4ft 3" = 130cm Height 3ft 11.5" = 121cm Seat Height 18" = 45cm Seat Depth 15" = 38cm Overall Depth from Wall 20" = 51cm
We are happy to offer mainland UK delivery with our specialist courier at no additional charge with this piece and are always happy to provide further images and details.
