18th.c. Welsh oak coffer c.1740. Flat (rather than panelled) plank top with simple moulded edge, held loose on notched bearers rather than metal hinges. Over a deep chest with small hinged compartment to one side. Superb panelled front and sides with raised and fielded panels and simple moulded detail to the rails and mullions. Original oak floor and back boards. Repair to the rear edge of the top, otherwise original throughout with particularly good colour and patina.
