Certain Fans Or Photos Of Fans Make Lasting Impressions, This Exact Fan Falls Into That Category. As A Young Collector Tied To An Office Job, My Exposure To Certain Fan Models Could Only Be Achieved By Photos In "The Fan Collector" News Letter. This Exact Gyro And Its Owner Became Planted In My Head. First The Coll Aspect Of Seeing A Gyro Is Seeing It Hanging, And Envision It In Operation. The Scale Being More Compact Than I Had Once Imagined. A Gyro Was Sure To Be A Fan That I Had Hopes Of Acquiring One Day. There Was Also Something About This Fan Owner, Fred Martensen. Never Having Had The Pleasure Of Meeting Fred, He Just Appears To Be A Cool Cat. A Few Months Ago While Discussing A Westinghouse Gyro Fan With A Lady From Indiana, She Mentioned It Once Belonged To Fred Martensen. At That Moment I Knew Exactly What Fan She Had. Her Late Husband, John Simerlein, Had Acquired This Gyro From Fred Martensen. John And Fred Were Very Close Friends And It Is Speculated That John Painted This Fan For Fred. John Was A Superior Automotive Painter And Completed Many Automobile Restorations In His Lifetime. Fred Always Said He Would Never Get Rid Of This Gyro But John Must Have Owned Something Very Special To Be Able To Acquire It From Fred. Based On The Old Images, The Correct Switch Was Added To This Example At Some Point. Fan Looks And Runs Excellent. It's Not Often That The History Of Owners Can Be Tracked Back This Far. Rare Opportunity To Own A Great Example Of Westinghouse Gyro.
