1920s Tavannes open faced pocket watch.
Tavannes was set up by Henri Sandoz who previously had a company in his own name. He left this company, which was subsequently run by a family member, and set up Tavannes Watch Company in the small Jura mountain municipality of Tavannes in Switzerland. Many watch making factories bought in their movements but Tavannes made their own movements, such as the one in this particular watch.
The movement is stem-winding and is working nicely. It is has been identified as a Tavannes calibre 919. The nicely jewelled decorated movement is a good sign of quality as it was an extra expense during the manufacturing process. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 10ct gold filled and is Moon model by the English based watch case maker Aaron Dennison, the Dennison Watch Case Company manufactured cases for many watch makers. The case is in nice condition with only minor marking from use..
The watch glass is in nice condition.
The white enamel dial has a very faint hairline crack to the outer edge between 11 and 12 o'clock but otherwise it is in nice condition.
The watch has blued steel hands.
