19th C Walnut Whatnot. Display Shelves.
This is a really nice mid 19th century Walnut 'Whatnot'. This was the Victorian term for a set of useful free standing display shelves. They were often used in Dining Rooms to take accessories for dinner parties - drinks and glasses, cutlery etc, or in the Drawing Room for displaying pictures, silverware and ornaments. An extremely versatile and attractive antique furniture accessory.
This one is a particularly nice example. It is made in walnut, with burr walnut facings to the drawer and frame, and barley twist spindles and legs turned from solid rosewood.
Height: 90cm
Width: 44.5cm
Depth: 36cm.
This piece has loads of charm and character, and is smaller than most whatnots. It will be equally at home in a country cottage as well as a more formal town house interior
It is finished and polished on all sides so it can free stand in the middle of the room - for example at the side, or behind a sofa.
Very good antique condition throughout. I like it particularly because it has not been French polished, but has a lovely patina and a beautiful wax soft sheen finish. ALL OF OUR PRICES INCLUDE FREE UK MAINLAND DELIVERY.
