This is an absolutely stunning and rare handpainted Austrian bed. The early 19th century bed has sleigh bed style sides and a raised and very decorative headboard which colourfully depicts the ascension of Christ. The original painting is beautifully done and retains a great depth to the colour. At some time in the past the bed has been professionally extended. This has been done very expertly in solid pine. The bed is now a large single size and would take a large single mattress (3 feet 6 by 6 feet 3). The headboard is an imposing piece being 77" in height overall. There are pretty town scenes and flower filled urns painted to the base board and floral panels to the side rails, and there is also a date to the base, 1831. Wooden laths are supplied with the bed so all it requires is a mattress. A very charming and unique piece. Delivery by courier can be arranged within the UK.
