19th Century Bamboo Cane Sword Stick

This fine walking cane will appeal to collectors on two counts. First and foremost it is a sword stick dating from mid-Victorian England, so circa 1860, and, secondly, it has the added virtue of being made of bamboo. A rare and delightful piece.
Its condition reflects its age. The leather that was originally on the handle has worn smooth or away in many places, the bamboo is showing some age in that it has a few drying splits and cracks, however it remains fully effective and is a long way from requiring restoration. The blade is quite rusted, but has been treated before the damage became excessive. So for its age it is not bad at all. The sword fits very firmly into the sheath and will not fall out. So it makes a very effective walking cane, and a casual observer would not know its hidden secret. As you can see, the rapier like blade is very long at 68cms, almost full length, and has blood-channels either side. Clearly a weapon of purpose.
The (presumed) silver cap on the handle is dinged, and I can find no hall-markings. The leather strap is a new addition and doesn't really go with the stick, but it serves to show there is a place for it, and to keep the silver-collared hole clear.
Length: 88.5 cms
