An unusual large, glazed salt pot with a hen and her chicks on top and with the owners name, home village, and the date 1874 inscribed below the opening. It stands 12" (30 cm) high and is in very good condition with no damage, despite its undoubted use over many years.

We have never seen a salt pot with such wonderful "folk art" decoration, and can only think that Mrs Kirkpatrick must have been delighted with it. Cushendall is a village in Northern Ireland.
