19th Century Japanese shibayama shodhana
A superb quality 19th Century Japanese Meiji period shibayama shodhana, the rectangular top above a pair of sliding doors, a stepped niche and an arrangement of further panel doors and short drawers, profusely inlaid and applied throughout with fish, insects, birds amongst blossoming prunus and and native specimen fruit and flora, the panel frames decorated in gilt in the maki-e manner, fretwork brackets and apron pierced and carved with scrolling leaves, standing on scroll forefeet. Circa 1890.
